Privacy Policy

Style Scout ("we", "us") runs stylescout.life, a tool that identifies clothing in a photo you upload and finds places to buy each item, including cheaper alternatives. This page explains what we collect, why, who else sees it, and how to reach us. It applies to the website and covers everyone who uses it, whether or not you create an account.

Photos you upload. When you scan an outfit, the photo is sent to our servers to identify each garment and search for matching products. We don't require an account to scan a photo.

Saved scans. If you save a scan, a compressed thumbnail of the photo and the results (item names, colors, matched products, links) are kept so you can revisit them. If you're not signed in, this is stored only in your browser (localStorage) and never reaches our servers beyond the original scan. If you sign in, it's synced to your account so you can access it from other devices.

Account information. If you create an account, we store your email address, and optionally a display name, avatar, and a country preference you set (used to show shopping links relevant to where you are — we don't infer this from your location automatically). Authentication is handled by our infrastructure provider, Supabase.

Wardrobe items. If you save an item to your wardrobe, we store its details (name, category, color, brand guess, the product link) against your account.

Match-quality feedback. If you flag a result as wrong, verify a match, or edit a result, we log that action (which link, what happened) to improve future matches. This is tied to your account if you're signed in, or kept anonymous if you're not.

Basic usage data. Our hosting provider collects standard, aggregate technical data (like page views and general browser/device information) to keep the site running and understand overall usage. We don't use this to build individual profiles of you.

To identify the clothing in your photo, find and rank matching products, show you cheaper alternatives, let you revisit past scans and saved items, localize shopping links to your country, improve match accuracy over time, and keep the service secure and working.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use your photos to train public models.

Getting you a result involves a few outside services, each seeing only what they need to do their part:

• AI image-analysis providers (including Google's Gemini and Google Vision, accessed through our infrastructure) process your uploaded photo to identify garments and find visually similar products.
• Firecrawl, a web search/scraping service, is used to search Amazon for matching products and current prices.
• Supabase hosts our database, file storage, and account sign-in.
• Amazon — when you click a "Shop" link, you leave our site and Amazon's own privacy practices apply; we don't control what happens on your visit there.
• Amazon Associates may see that a link was clicked, so we can earn a commission on qualifying purchases — see the affiliate disclosure in our Terms of Service.

We don't share your data with anyone else for their own marketing purposes, and we don't sell it.

We use your browser's local storage to keep scans on your device when you're not signed in, and cookies to keep you signed in when you are. We don't use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

Scans saved only in your browser stay there until you delete them or clear your browser data — we never see them. For an account, we keep your data until you ask us to delete it. To delete your account and associated data, or to ask what we hold about you, email admin@stylescout.life.

We're based in New South Wales, Australia, and handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) — including your right to access the information we hold about you and to ask us to correct it. If you're elsewhere, you may have additional rights under your own local law (for example the GDPR in the EU/UK, or state privacy laws like the CCPA in California), including the right to export or delete your information, or to object to certain uses. Style Scout isn't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.

We use industry-standard measures (including HTTPS encryption in transit) to protect your data, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

We may update this page as the service changes. We'll update the date at the top when we do. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the update.
